Digital Cable Rocks!
Mood:  energetic
Now Playing: Afroman - Palmdale
I gave up on DirecTV. I realized that the signal I was receiving wasn't the new High Definition, so i called them up for a quote. Ridiculous. So I looked into cable. 20 bucks less per month, and it comes with HD and a Tivo unit included. DirecTV wanted 1200 bucks for HDTV Tivo. Glad I looked around, and that my contract is up with DirecTV.

We spent a good hour yesterday watching some aquarium show on Discovery HD. It looked like I was Scuba Diving, not watching TV. Incredible.

Yesterday was Mothers Day and my friend Steph's birthday. She had a small dinner party at her house, and I was elected to cook at the last minute. I made London Broil the other night for Steph and Erica, and they wanted to have it again. I ran to Albertsons to buy some supplies and won a $20 gift card for being the 100th customer. Crazy night.... The food was good too.

Off to the Sahara for a check in with Fred, he said that if weekend tournaments were busy, he'd probably need another dealer (hopefully me). Guess I'll find out.

One last thing, on bet365.com, they are having $10,000 tournaments all month long. The next one is on the 10th at 12:30 pm PST. The tournament is totally free, all you have to do is register. I'll be registered under jrdurham1 if anyone wants to watch.....

WSOP, Here I come!
Mood:  vegas lucky
Now Playing: Nickleback - See You at the Show
Well, I got my first Vegas job today... Dealing at the RIO for the World Series of Poker starting June 1st. I spoke to several people who had worked it last year, and the common theme between them was that the money was awesome (YES!!!!!!), and they expect it to be even better this year. (Double YES!!!!). I have been dealing now for almost 2 years, but I have to admit I was nervous when I was finally able to audition today. I was one of the last to go, but I only dealt one hand. I guess I made a good impression, because the regular dealer that I had tapped out congratulated me on a job well done. The manager - get this - his name is Johnny Moss (not the , but one hell of a poker name...), simply said " hired, wait here". Some ID and a few forms later, I was onboard. I am still waiting to hear from the Sahara, and Texas Station is looking promising too. I have mixed feelings on which to choose, but I guess I need to wait to see which one chooses me first. Maybe the first one wins....

What A Night
Now Playing: American Hi Fi - Another Perfect Day
I went to the opening of the new Wynn Resort last night. TONS of people. It looked just like the Bellagio from the inside. I have to say that the Ferrari Dealership was coolest. I'll have to go back later and really check it out, there were just too many people last night to enjoy the place fully. From what I'm reading in the papers this morning, I must have missed alot.

Would you believe I locked my keys in the car last night? Cost me 50 bucks to get them out, I paid off the valet at the Frontier to use his AAA for me. Fifty was cool, because it probably would have cost me $100 if I had called a locksmith. Maybe I should look in to AAA..... or a spare key somewhere....

No poker yet in the Sin City
Mood:  suave
Now Playing: OMD - If You Leave
Wow..... Over a week in the Sin City, and no poker games yet. It doesn't help that I have about $20 in my pocket. Hope that mailman hurries.....

I actually went to a casino (sort of) for the first time since I moved here... Granted, it wasn't to gamble. I went to the 'Ho' with Mitch and Loxsie last night. Its actually called the Westward ho, and it is located on Industrial behind the strip next to Circus Circus. 6 Sliders for 4.95, and a bucket of 6 Bud Lights on ice for $6. Awesome! Did I mention Karaoke 'till 2am? Didn't spend a dime on a slot machine either. So proud of myself.....

Today is my last lazy day, tomorrow is the job fair at the Rio from 10-2. They're hiring for the World Series of Poker, and I am strongly considering working there. Ive got several other stops to make tomorrow. I have a fresh stack of new resumes printed and some renewed enthusiasm for a job search, mostly due to cabin fever. It may be a nice house, but you gotta get out sometimes.....

NBA Playoffs start Saturday. I hope Phoenix goes all the way, cuz I hate the Spurs (integral part of being a Jazz fan). I guess I cant forget about Miami or Detroit either. Gonna be a good month for basketball.

Updates on the job search tomorrow....

Now Playing: Snoop Dogg - From the church to the palace
Wow, I'm finally here and settled in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. I have a million things to update you on, and I have the time to do it too, so I guess I have no more excuses. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you can probably expect daily posts for awhile.

I guess first I should tell the masses how and why I moved here. My recent lack of posts here on my blog has been due to my many trips to Las Vegas since the New Year began. I have been doing fairly well playing poker, and I love all of the options for entertainment that the city has to offer. I had already decided to move here by the end of the summer.
Enter Mitch. He is a good friend from Wendover who moved down here a month or two ago. He and his girlfriend Loxsie were doing the weekly hotel thing, something I didn't want to do. On my last trip to Vegas he told me that they had found a house and that I was welcome to rent a room here. He was pretty quiet about the house, only saying that it was pretty nice and I would love it. He told me that they were getting a U-Haul the very next week and moving all their stuff from Wendover. I was welcome to come along. It didn't take long for me to decide to go, and my job wasn’t a problem because they were overstaffed anyway. One week later, here I am!

Next up, a visual tour of the house.....

Guess Whose Back, Back Again.......
Mood:  lazy
Now Playing: Blu Collar Comedy Tour
Well, its been a whirlwind lately, Ive been in Vegas for most of the last two months on my days off playing poker and looking for somewhere to live down there. I think I like Mandalay bay the best, its selection of conventioneers is by far the most inept and the most eager to risk all of their chips on a double gut draw... I have also won 2 of 3 tournaments I have played there...

I played in what may be the craziest format for no limit I have ever seen at the Luxor. 3 blinds of 1, 1, and 2. A $50 buy in. No more, no less. I lost $150 in 3 hands before I gave up. I don't believe I saw a single flop at that table without at least 1 player all in.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has my vote for the place where the beautiful people congregate, but the palms and the Rio are right there too.

The worst gouge on a room I have seen so far was last week during the construction expo. $239 for a standard room at the stratosphere. On a Wednesday. I have a problem with paying $49 for their crappy rooms. C'mon, even construction workers aren't that stupid. I guess thats why stratosphere was one of the last hotels with vacancies.

More later.....

Writers Bloc
Mood:  lazy
Now Playing: Afroman - Colt 45
Sorry its been awhile. I still dont feel like writing much, but heres a little somethin someone sent me. Read on.......

Two couples were playing poker one evening. John accidentally dropped some
cards on the floor. When he bent down under the table to pick them up, he
noticed Bill's wife Sue wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress!

Shocked by this, John upon trying to sit back up again, hit his head on the
table and emerged red-faced.

Later, John went to the kitchen to get some refreshments.

Bill's wife followed and asked, "Did you see anything that you liked under
there?

Surprised by her boldness, John courageously admitted that, well indeed he
did.

She said, " Well, you can have it but it will cost you $500."

After taking a minute or two to assess the financial and moral costs of this
offer, John confirms that he is interested.

She tells him that since her husband Bill works Friday afternoons and John
doesn't, John should be at her house around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

When Friday rolled around, John showed up at Bill's house at 2 p.m. sharp
and after paying Sue the agreed sum of $500 they went to the bedroom and
closed their transaction, as agreed.

John quickly dressed and left.

As usual, Bill came home from work at 6 p.m. and upon entering the house,
asked his wife abruptly. "Did John come by the house this afternoon?"

With a lump in her throat Sue answered "Why yes, he did stop by for a few
minutes this afternoon."

Her heart nearly skipped a beat when her husband curtly asked, "And did he
give you $500?"

In terror she assumed that somehow he had found out and after mustering her
best poker face, replied, "Well, yes, in fact he did give me $500."

Bill, with a satisfied look on his face, surprised his wife by saying,
"Good, I was hoping he did. John came by the office this morning and
borrowed $500 from me. He promised me he'd stop by our house this afternoon
on his way home and pay me back."

Now THAT, my friends, is a poker player!

Vegas Babay, Vegas!
Mood:  vegas lucky
Now Playing: Some more 80's s#$t
Well hello, everyone, I am typing from the same internet cafe as before, from vegas. I left on the spur of the moment, with $1500 of tournament winnings in my pocket. I havent told you about that, but more to follow.

I was stuck almost $300, playing the 4-8 at Bellagio, I had put my name on the 15-30 list, but nothing was open....

I sank down to $180, below the minimum buy in at the 15-30, but I won a pot to get to $240, just above the minimum. I wen to the 15-30, and wouldnt you know, I made the nut flus with mt k9 of diamonds and won a pot, taking me $100 over what I came with (Including drinks, dinner and entertainment from the night before.) I quickly cashed in and came here.

more to follow.....

Jeff

PS. if anyone reads this and wonders where I am, I am still in vegas till thursday.... Sorry dad, I said I would call you for lunch, I still will, but it will probably be from lunch.....

Thought this was amusing.

The picture shows that this soldier has been thru Survival School and learned his lessons well. He's giving the sign of "coercion" with his left hand. These hand signs are taught in survival school to be used by POW's as a method of posing messages back to our intelligence services who may view the photo or video. This guy was obviously being coerced into shaking hands with Hillary Clinton.

Unless you've been hiding in Saddam's hole for the past 24 hrs, you know that the Jazz finally won a game. The amazing part is that they beat the Spurs. They hadn't beaten them since 2000. 18 games. Props to the Jazz for finally kicking that monkey off their back. I still believe, I guess......
