You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon'.

What a Week!
Mood:  lazy
Now Playing: Kanye West - All Falls Down / FLA-FSU on ESPN
I can't think of a better week I've had in a long time. I became the proud owner of a new (to me) Mercedes 190 E. I got a great deal, and I have to give a shout to my dad who helped me find it. More on this later.

Did you catch the big heavyweight fight last night? You know, the Pacers - Pistons rumble. I will not be surprised to see Ron Artest suspended for a very very long time, and possibly locked up too. Stephen Jackson should do a little time too. It did make for some must see TV. Everyone in the poker room agreed with me that the only good thing about this brawl is that we didn't have to see Terrell Owens with the naked girl in the locker room anymore. I bet this fight will be even more overplayed than that. Hopefully they get more security in the arena so it doesn't happen again. Had to love the guy who threw the folding chair at O'neal. Classic.

Poker last night was almost a bust. I was stuck $150 before I won a hand. I got a little crazy after that, and I got back all but $5. I was amazed at some of the calls I got, considering I was telling people what I had most of the time.

3-6 seems to be really taking off. I like the game because there is quite a bit more action, and with the mix of chips, the pots seem to look even bigger.

Props to the Utes, they will probably end up in the Fiesta Bowl, who they,ll be facing I have no Idea, but it will be cool to see them in a major bowl game.

More in the morning, I promise

Now Playing: Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two
Full room last night. We had six games and there was tons of action. The highlight of the night (at least while working, more on this later) was that a very interesting player made his return after a 2 month hiatus. We will call him "D". This poor kid lost at least $1200 in a 1-5 game through the night. his technique was simple. Raise. Raise again. Raise till you cant raise no more. I dealt several hands on that table that were capped every round. Not only did 'D' raise, but he had the unique ability to make half the table either call or re raise him. I pushed several $200 pots to people with only the 2nd or 3rd pair. Or ace high or something. Fun to watch, but I'm glad I was working instead of playing. The game was basically a contest to see who could draw out on the other.

I had another good showing in the tournament, placing 10th. Except that it only pays 1, 2, and 3. Gotta quit making silly mistakes. I have big plans for tonight's tournament. I hope to place in either tonight's tournament or in the Monday no limit at the Rainbow. Patience.

Basketball couldn't have been better yesterday. The Jazz won in grand fashion, and I went 4/4 on my sports bets, thank you very much. Watch the overs on games. I bet a couple and hit them all. Scoring in the league is up by an average of more than 3 pts per game, and historically it only increases as the year progresses. Exciting for bets, and its a fun brand of basketball to watch.

Good luck to me!

Mood:  on fire
Now Playing: Sum 41 - Fat Lip
Tournament time again. Tonight is the $60 buy in shootout. No Rebuys. I gotta play good from the start. I like my chances, I have been finishing well in tournaments lately, I think I am due for a win. I just have to remember- no mistakes, cuz there aren't any second chances.

Last night was quite entertaining in the poker room. We had several games and I was called in early. I was able to jump right into the lineup and make some money. The strangest part was that the last game left was the 2-10. It was pretty fat tonight, there were several players that cashed out over $500. I dread to think how much a couple guys that didn't cash out were in. Oh well, gotta make a living somehow...

Big game tonight, the Jazz and Detroit. I hope that Utah can bounce back from their loss to Toronto the other night. Did I mention that my dad and I lost every ticket we bet on that game? At least Ben Wallace will not be playing, should give the Jazz a little edge in the middle.

A few thoughts about this Scott Peterson thing. I wish it weren't getting the undeserved hype that it is, I think it is a terrible thing that he did to his wife and unborn child. (Assuming he really is guilty. 12 people who know alot more details are sure of it, and thats good enough for me.) I hope things won't turn into a media circus with the Hacking case in Utah, I think that the families deserve a little more respect than that. I cant imagine going through the trauma of losing a loved one and then seeing it plastered everywhere in the media for years afterward. The sooner it is off my television and computer, the better. Thats all I have to say about that.

Poker Friday
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Usher - U Got It Bad
Well, Its time for sleep before another night at Montego. I played in the noon tournament today, but did not finish in the money. I actually lost with an AK against a 42 offsuit. Couldn't pair up, but I have to add that the 42 guy was very hot, Couldn't lose a hand. He actually went on to win the whole thing.

On another note, I highly recommend the flank steak in the buffet at Montego Bay, it is delicious!

I will end on a positive note, I was able to recoup my tournament buy in in a very soft 1-5 afterwards. It was a little different, but if you raised, people folded almost every time. All the tells were very obvious too. I believe that everyone secretly wants to be an actor, and does their best to play the part at the poker table. If you watch closely, people will try to give you money without even knowing it.

Goodbye and good luck (Goodnight)!

Random Browsing got Me Here
Now Playing: New Order - Age of Consent
Not much to read this early in the morning, so here are some quotes I found, some funny, some meaningful. All of them caught my eye for some reason or another.

Half of the people in the world are below average. (Anonymous)

"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened." (Douglas Adams)

Do not marry a person that you know that you can live with; only marry someone that you cannot live without. (Anonymous)

Somebody hits me, I'm going to hit him back. Even if it does look like he hasn't eaten in a while. {after blatantly elbowing an Angolan basketball opponent in the Olympics}. (Charles Barkley)

If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base. (Dave Barry)

Tell a man there are 300 Billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure. (Jarger)

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy. (Tom Waits)

I went for a walk last night and she asked me how long I was going to be gone. I said, "The whole time". (Steven Wright)

Don't spend two dollars to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the Salvation Army instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for seventy-five cents.

I especially like the hidden message in that last one....

Back to work
Mood:  energetic
Now Playing: Evanescence - Bring me to life
Had an excellent weekend! (Midweek for most of you.) I am excited to go back to work tonight, I am craving some action, and the money wont hurt anything either. I spent a bunch of money on work clothes this week, well deserved, I think.

I spent today helping my friend Joe move out his old furniture and moving the new stuff in. I usually hate moving, but in this case, his new stuff is so cool that I help but smile while lugging a 200lb sofa up 2 flights of stairs.

I was going to put up my picks last night, but I even come home before we went to the rainbow and bet. matter anyways, cuz I lost. Dad too. Actually we both took a beating, but it was fun anyways.

I wonder if the poker room is finished. Every week, we get a little bit more in. Last weekend it was some more Plasma tv's. Maybe they finish the walls soon. Even unfinished, it is the nicest room in town.

Well, back in the morning with the nights report.

Impatience
Mood:  irritated
Now Playing: Orlando Magic vs Charl... oops. New Orleans Hornets
I am impatient. I am especially impatient with Mr Stevie Franchise. Play some ball kid. Quit screwing around 1 on 1 and play some team ball.

They're still beating the Hornets by 6 going into the 4th. I'm just bitchy because the Jazz game hasn't started yet.

I made a few changes to my fantasy team, I had to lose Garnett because he only plays 2 times in the next week. I got Kirelenko and Mike Dunleavy, replacing Jason Hart at G. Hart wasn't doing nothing. I definitely plan on picking Garnett back up next week. He is too valuable to be without for too long.

Kelvin Cato is having a very good game, I may have to check him out for the stats. Blocks are huge in my league, and he is good for several per game. Offense had not been a high point of his, but he is finding the basket alot lately.

Random Musings
Mood:  chatty
Now Playing: Orlando Magic vs. New Orleans Hornets
Last night at work I saw me a few shockers. I guess they aren't really shockers, because I see them all of the time, but it still kills me to see people make fundamental mistakes.

First, I still to this day cannot understand why you do not raise any bet if you have the mortal nuts. There is no reason not to raise if someone bets into you and you have an unbeatable hand. Unless you dont like money, I guess.

I saw a kid last night, he has an ace high straight. There isn't a pair on the board. There are no more than 2 of any suit showing. 1 person in front of him bets the river $5. 2 players call in front of him. This poor guy, he just calls, says he wasn't sure or something. Couldve made another $20 easy. He mighta got reraised.

Second, I get another guy, he has pocket 2's and for some ridiculous reason, he is still there for the river, which he bets. The board was a5583 - a pair of fives by then. No 2, no straight. In fact, the a-5 is the closest he ever got to anything resembling a straight. Anyways, he bets 5, and a guy who turns out to have a pair of 8's raises. Mr 2's just calls. And shows after he is beaten. I guess the reason I get so frustrated seeing this is because I'm working and can't play.

Some nights are easy easy money, I was impressed last night by a friend I can't name and his incredible patience. He sat there for 6 hrs, waited for the perfect moment, and destroyed the game. Killed off 4 players in as many hands and booked a $500 night.

Basketball, Politics and a Little Humor
Mood:  sharp
Now Playing: Afroman- She wont let me f***
Well, I just finished reading about the state of the NBA last night.... Decided to pull the trigger and call directv and order league pass for the year. 169.95 well spent thank you very much. The Jazz were just sick last night. Sure Kobe got his 38 or so, but the Jazz dominated on both sides of the floor, the game was never close. I was a bit worried about the point guard situation, but it looks like we'll be OK. Kinda funny seeing Howard Eisley in a Jazz uniform again. I got a few flashbacks to the glory years when I first saw him in the game.

Kicked some butt in fantasy basketball too. Garnett's line was sick! How 'bout that Grant Hill. Here's hoping the ankle holds up, the guy deserves to go out as a player... not a hobbled stiff.

I am still trying to get used to the thought of four more years of Bush. I was pleasantly surprised by the stock market, it has been on a steady climb up since the election results were announced. Probably wall street salivating over all that social security money they may get their greedy little hands on. Oh well, no matter who the president is, I still gotta go to work tonight.

I played a little 1-5 last night, tore it up to begin with, I turned a nut straight and it held up. Had four callers, even after a check raise on the turn and the river. Up about 75 bucks, I am thinking of leaving. Just a few more hands, I think to myself. a-7 suited, pretty good, I limp in. catch a 7 on the flop and another on the turn. I have been playing very conservative up to this point, so I drop another check raise on the turn. I get not 1 but 2 callers... I get a funny feeling. Sure enough, the river is a 9 that puts two pair on the board, 9's and 7's. Sure enough, this guy called my check raise with a 9-2 offsuit, catches the 21-1 shot on the river and takes my pot with a bigger full house.

I know I promised humor too, but I got nothin folks.... Maybe in a minute.

I bet when the Neanderthal kids would make a snowman, someone would always end up saying, "Don't forget the thick, heavy brows." Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky brows too, and they'd get mad and eat the snowman.

Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaut on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham! You just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man."

Once while walking through the mall a guy came up to me and said "Hey, how's it going?". So I grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his head and said "Now whose asking the questions?"

When I die, I would like to go peacefully, in my sleep, like my Grandfather did. Not screaming and yelling like the passenger in his car.

When this girl at the art museum asked me whom I liked better, Monet or Manet, I said, "I like mayonnaise." She just stared at me, so I said it again, louder. Then she left. I guess she went to try to find some mayonnaise for me.

If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten lava, forget em', cause, man, they're gone. If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for mercy, then yes, Mr. Brave man, I guess I'm a coward.

To me, it's a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?" you can say, "Sorry, got these sacks."

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

Tournament last night was rough. So was live play. No problem... It was a real slow night, I didnt have to work, so Jose and I went and saw the costume contest at the Rainbow. Quite a few people in there, it was a pretty good time. I thought a few people got overlooked in the judging, but overall they were pretty fair.

One last poker tournament tonight, and I'll take the rest of the week off. NBA tipoff is wednesday night, I'll see you at the Delta Center!
